U.S. Senators Blanche Lincoln and Mark Pryor and U.S. Representatives Vic Snyder (AR-02) and John Boozman (AR-03) today announced more than $600,000 in Housing and Urban Development (HUD) funding that supports veterans.

The HUD Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (VASH) is awarded to public housing agencies that agree to partner with VA medical facilities to provide rental assistance under a supportive housing program for homeless veterans.

North Little Rock Housing Authority will get $508,750 from HUD-VASH. The Fayetteville Housing Authority will receive $138,642 from HUD-VASH grants.

"Our nation's veterans have placed their lives at risk to help keep our country safe," said Lincoln. "Sadly, thousands of veterans have struggled with the transition back to their daily lives and are homeless. Approximately 40 percent of our nation's homeless men are veterans. It's imperative that we provide for their needs and recognize their sacrifice, and this funding helps us follow through on our country's promise to them."

"We must keep our commitment to take care of our troops before, during and after they serve our nation. These funds are a critical component of that promise," said Pryor.

"I am pleased to hear that the North Little Rock Housing Authority was awarded almost $509,000 to implement a supportive housing program for Arkansas's veterans," said Snyder. "A good place to live is a crucial component to improve the livelihood of these valuable citizens."

"This funding will go a long way to improving the lives of homeless American heroes who call Arkansas home," Boozman said. "This is a step to honoring the sacrifices they've made and show them this country continues to support them for their service."
